Weltenburg Abbey, founded by the Irish-Scottish monks Eustasius and Agilus of Luxeuil around the year 600, represents a historical site of special significance and is also the oldest monastic settlement in Bavaria. The rich history of the abbey spans centuries, and in 800 it adopted the rules of St. Benedict. Today, the abbey houses seven Benedictine monks under the leadership of Abbot Thomas Maria Freihart.
