Weltenburg Monastery, founded by the Irish-Scottish monks Eustasius and Agilus of Luxeuil around the year 600, is a historical site of particular importance and is also the oldest monastic settlement in Bavaria. The monastery’s rich history spans the centuries, and in the year 800 it adopted the rules of St. Benedict. Today, the monastery is home to seven Benedictine monks under the leadership of Abbot Thomas Maria Freihart.

The monks not only dedicate themselves to monastic life, but are also involved as pastoral caregivers and look after the guests in the St. Georg meeting center. Here, visitors can participate in spiritual events and find inner contemplation in a quiet environment. The monastery brewery, founded in 1050, is one of the oldest breweries in the world and offers visitors the opportunity to experience the traditional art of brewing and taste the various types of beer.
